Hey all - so Neko Case has a new album coming out and the first single is pretty damn decent. She is also raising money for one of my favorite organizations, Best Friends Animal Society, with the help of the new single - and the help of folks like you.

If you post her new single on your blog Neko and ANTI- Records will donate $5 to Best Friends. Simpler it could not be.

So please do this for the animals out in Utah that need food and care. Most of the dogs seized from Michael Vick's home are living there - among hundreds of others.

NY Governor David Patterson at the convention last night:

He delivered it with perfect timing, and it might be the funniest line I've ever heard in a political speech.

A close runner-up from last night was Ohio Gov Ted Strickland:

So, I've been doing a bit of freedying lately and wanted to share the goodness. If you like 'em then go buy some of their shit the legal way pretty please.

First up is by my-default-LJ-icon-inspiring Clem Snide. The song is from Early Home Recordings, Vol 1 and it's a sub-two-minute, raucously strummed, fidelity deficient, sardonically-soaked slice of freedy fodder. Also - shuffleboard is mentioned not once, but twice - for which you've really got to give them big-ups.

The 2nd object of my freed, is off a sadly-E-not-L-P called One Day in the Desert by Shawn Fogel. I learned of him recently when he opened for Eef Barzelay. Someone online described his music as alt-power-country-pop which I gotta say is pretty fitting. There is Clem Snide-ness, Jon Brion-age, and Gigolo Aunt-ism all present. PLUS - there is some heavy-duty-bussboy-ishness. This song in particular reminds me of some of D's work.

I had forgotten how awesome Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is. It is making me sad that I dismantled the 6 channel analog setup at home. The 5.1 version will kick your ass.

Ok - I know at least 2 of you are acappella nerds who may find this interesting.

The acappella group I used to sing with at VT, Juxtaposition, was just nominated for 3 Contemporary Acappella Recording Awards! Whoooo! The nominations were:

Best Male Collegiate Album - Anomaly
Best Male Collegiate Song - Touch The Sky
Best Male Collegiate Arrangement - Blurry, arr by my man Brent Yoder

It was a pretty competitive year I am told - so I'm not sure what the likelihood is of winning any of the categories - but I can say this album is definitely the top one ever put out by the group.
